Where We Serve

Our mission is to be used by God as He answers the cry of the lost and helpless children of the world.
(Psalm 72:12-14)

Blind children have a love for music. Special sponsor gifts have been used to provide guitars, a keyboard and a harmonica.

There are two choirs at the school, one for the younger children and another for the older kids.

The older choir has been singing in the church near the school for the past two years and now other churches have begun asking the kids to come sing.

It has been very encouraging for the children to hear the applause in new churches as people are amazed at their abilities.

Gihanga Blind School
Burundi, Africa

The Gihanga Blind School (GBS) was established in 1978 as a ministry of Emmanuel Association of Churches and is the only academic school for the blind in Burundi.

Gihanga is a farming community about 12 miles north of the capital, Bujumbura, and is known as a dry and poor area.

The school property is about nine acres enclosed on three sides by a security wall, with the last section to be built soon.

This Christian residential school has three buildings of typical Burundian construction, handmade brick walls with concrete floors and a zinc roof. The student enrollment has tripled in the past three years and the director is actively seeking more blind children.

Also envisioned for the school is a much needed multi-purpose building that will house a chapel, dining room, kitchen, storeroom & office. Vegetables are grown on campus for the school & for market, and there are mango, banana & papaya trees.

This beautiful new building was only a dream two years ago, but now it is a reality! Many kind people in America gave generously and many men in Burundi worked hard. The children & staff are enjoying these wonderful new facilities. Thanks to all who helped.
