Burundi Deaf Church & Burundi Deaf Evangelists
Bujumbura, Burundi
ministry opportunity for Allow The Children
The Burundi Deaf Church was founded by a group of young deaf Burundi who desired to worship God in a deaf environment and in a congregation led by deaf. They are not hostile toward the hearing but rather want this church to be primarily by & for the deaf.
Jim & Vicki Brooks, Allow The Children missionaries in Burundi, have years of experience in working with the deaf in the USA & Jamaica. The Brooks have been warmly accepted by the church and have been engaged in preaching, teaching & singing there since 2005. ATC has also assisted the church in starting a new deaf church in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The Brooks have also developed a strong relationship with the Burundi Deaf Evangelists, a group from the church that is actively involved in deaf evangelism throughout Burundi and in other countries. There are many unchurched/lost deaf in Burundi (and throughout the world) since virtually no churches are able to reach out to the deaf in their language. The deaf evangelists are filling this critical need and ATC is assisting them with Bibles, teaching materials & travel funds.
