Frequently Asked Questions
How are the sponsorship funds used for the children?
If your child lives in one of our children's homes, your gift is added to the general account which is used to meet the needs of all the children in the home. Sponsored children are not given different food or clothing. However, if the home is not able to send all of the children to school, sponsored children are the ones who will attend.
If your child lives with a family, the support is given to the parent or guardian. The parent understands that the sponsored child's needs must be met and he must be enrolled in school, even if all of the children in the family are not able to attend. Beyond this, the money may be used for food for all of the children or other needs of the family.
How much of your gifts reach the children?
At least 90% of your gifts reach the children. We may retain up to 10% for overhead expenses, but as much as possible is used for the children.
What if a sponsor misses a month or needs to stop supporting the child?
There is no time commitment for sponsors. Please continue for as long as you are led by God to help this ministry. Once sponsored, a family or children's home depends on the support to meet the needs of the child. If a sponsor misses a month, we use the fund generated from the 10% held (from each gift) to cover the need. We also use it to help children before their sponsor is assigned or for any urgent situation.
May I send letters and gifts for my child?
Letters can be exchanged once or twice a year, which we hand carry in to the country and distribute to the children. Small flat items such as stickers, bookmarks, family snapshots can be sent with your letter. However, we cannot take gifts for a specific child because of the luggage space, and...... just imagine the difficulties in a children's home or family if only one or a few children receive gifts.
What accountability is in place for the sponsorship program?
Our Nepali partners guard the integrity of our program very carefully. Our children's homes are operated by partners we know well and personally trust. Supervision, usually the family's pastor is in place for the family programs. And - we make frequent trips into the country ourselves, visiting every home, and meeting with the children.
